He had to hire somebody

He had to hire somebody who could do the dirty job no matter what it cost him. But who could he hire on such short notice? He racked his brain for an answer. He inhaled some more smoke, a smug smile lit up his face. He had to call Socket, he thought, the guy was just the perfect person for the job. Picking up his phone he dialed Socket?s number and asked him to come over to his house as fast as he could.

Twenty minutes later, Mick heard a knock on his door. He sprang to his feet and hurried to the door unbolted it and yanked it open. Two men entered the room and Mick closed the door frantically behind them after staring outside to make sure nobody saw them come in.
?So, Socket thanks for coming?, Mick said as the two men stood in the middle of the room. Socket nodded. He was about six foot tall and was wearing a slouch hat at a jaunty angle on his skull of a head.

One strategy is to

One strategy is to listen your way around until you will find the right note on another string. This strategy will of course work but you will not develop your sight reading skills. A good ear is an asset but nevertheless you will have to make a conscious effort to learn the fretboard in order to be able to find the notes automatically when looking at the sheet music.

How to avoid looking at the fretboard

One reason for always looking at the fretboard is that you are used to it. The remedy for this is of course to practice reading the sheet music without looking at the fretboard. Practice this skill with easy pieces in the first position and pay attention to correct fingering which will help you finding your notes without looking.

Do you learn to sight read when you sightread?

When you practice sight reading you have to be aware of the fact that you cannot use the same piece of sheet music many times, maybe just once, else you are just kidding yourself.

Unlike the sophisticated plates of the

Unlike the sophisticated plates of the past, French food now fits into the public’s desire for “real food”. But real food is not just about traditional mum’s-cooking type of dishes. People want traditional foods and flavors with a distinct contemporary feel. People want the old packaged and presented in a new way. The new French cuisine is exactly this.

Frog’s legs are still being served in abundance, but the new French cuisine is also influenced by what is going on outside of France. French food is now transformed by influences from the South American, Asian, Italian and American cuisines. Chefs creating the new French cuisine are incorporating ideas picked up from their travels around the world. These days chefs are knowledgeable of the characteristics of cuisines around the world and can use elements of various cultures in creating their own new cuisine.

The result? The new French cuisine is creative and classical. The new French cuisine is both traditional and contemporary.

Business gift cards can be used for

Business gift cards can be used for purchases like spa visits, restaurants, movie tickets, travel, arts and craft classes and music.

Essentially, a gift card is like a gift certificate, but instead of being made with paper and presented like a coupon, it is made of plastic. Similar to a cash card, a business gift card is swiped at a register, at which point the funds assigned to that card are subtracted from its account. At this point the card is considered redeemed. If the card has multi-use value, the receiver can keep the card for another future purchase at the place where the card was assigned.

According to The National Retail Federation, gift card sales are expected to total $18.49 billion dollars by the end of 2005. That is a 6.6 percent increase over 2004.

They make cutting firewood,

They make cutting firewood, small trees or fallen trees easier. But many accidents occur as a result of mishandling the chain saw that could have otherwise been prevented.

A majority of accidents result from the misuse of the saw?s moving chain. So when using the tool, you have to be familiar with its parts. Proper practice with the saw is essential to learning how to safely operate it.

Another important rule is never to work alone when working with chain saws. Having someone to assist you ensures safety and protection.

There are different types of chain saws available. Figuring out which one is the right one for you is very easy. It all depends on the extent of use, as well as on how often you intend to use it.

It is much harder for the manufacturer to dispute the consumer?s basic facts that the car meets the essential requirements of what is a lemon, when the vehicle meets the presumption.

With the burden of proof on the manufacturer, they must prove the consumer?s car is not a lemon. They may have to bring in experts, go through a lot of legal activities, and try to prove to a jury that the lemon law doesn?t say what it says. They must do this in the face of your facts, which are legally in your favor. This is good for the consumer.

Instead of being the short kid with glasses, constantly getting stuffed in lockers and trashcans, you are now the buff athlete who takes no crap from anyone. When our modern lemon laws were created, the very obvious imbalance between the consumer and his or her resources vs.

ANTIPAROS ISLAND, GREECE

DECA ARCHITECTURE

In yesteryear a postcard proclaiming ‘a summer cruising around the Aegean’ would read as elegant, a little boastful, but certainly a single entendre. And yet today it could seem seamy; especially if postmarked Mykonos, the renowned ‘gay island’, which markets itself on casual carnality.

Mykonos is, however, but one of 220 Greek islands in the Cyclades cluster. While the smallest remain uninhabited, a handful have witnessed tourism disfigure their natural ruggedness into a whitewashed cubist topography.

Aloni, a house on the central island of Antiparos, is a riposte to the archipelago’s vulgar overdevelopment. Its architectural expression looks to man’s earlier markings, the dry-stone walling that created a landscape of arable plains. In the saddle of two slopes, Deca Architecture has erected two such stone walls. Set apart in parallel, they create a planted bridge between hills, beneath which is hidden a single-level 240m2 dwelling.

This reveals itself through four courtyards that puncture the plateau, allowing a quintet of bedrooms to be arrayed at the corners of a central living/dining room

However, after a couple of hours,

However, after a couple of hours, further oxidation is a bad thing. It starts to damage the wine and will eventually ruin it.

Many of us have had the experience of leaving an unfinished bottle out all night without the cork back on. The difference in flavor and aroma the next day is striking and unmistakable. Even if re-corked the next day, the wine will usually taste flat, ?raisiny,? and unpleasant — all a product of the oxidation process.

So how do you preserve an open bottle of wine when you don?t want to (or can?t) drink the whole thing in one sitting? There are only four reliable methods of preserving the remaining wine, some more reliable than others:

1. First, put the cork back on and put the wine in the fridge. The oxidative process slows down dramatically in cooler temperatures. This is a very easy — and a fairly reliable — method when you don?t have any other choices. Certainly much better than leaving an open bottle on the kitchen counter overnight.

2. A second option is to transfer the remaining wine to a half-bottle (375ml) and put it in the fridge. Doing this eliminates most of the air that would normally come in contact with the wine in a standard-size bottle (750ml).

Staff report

An artist seeks to capture fleeting moments in time, whether it is a landscape, a sacred place, or the spirit of an individual. Two local artists capture those magical moments in photographic images and in pastel portraits and watercolor landscapes.

Lou Kohl Morgan, a real estate professional, draws quiet, reflective portraits in pastel and paints richly colored landscapes in watercolors.

Connor Croom, a psychologist, seeks to discover the profound in photographic images of common events and places.

Their work will be presented in an exhibition, titled “Lost in Time,” on Saturday and Sunday (July 17 and 18) at The Stables Gallery, in the courtyard of the Taos Center for the Arts, at 133 Paseo del Pueblo Norte. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The public is invited to view the show and meet the artists at a reception on Saturday (July 17), 2-5 p.m.

Lou Kohl Morgan

Born in Wichita, Kansas, Lou grew up in Oklahoma and California. Her ancestors were early pioneers in the Oklahoma Territory. She takes pride in her Native American ancestry, tracing part of her lineage to the Choctaw Tribe.

Morgan holds a MA and an MFA in painting from the University of Iowa. For 25 years, she has taught college-level drawing, etching, lithography, watercolor, and pastel — the majority of that time at the University of New Hampshire.

She was drawn to the Southwest and Four Corners area. In the mid- ’80s, she visited Chaco Canyon and Canyon de Chelly, camping and painting with artist friends. The land called her back. In 1993 she moved to Taos.

“This show of works on paper — pastels and watercolors — represents 20 years of my interest in the human figure and the Four Corners area. The drawings, portraits of friends and posed models, are drawn from life. The small watercolors are done on-site during camping trips to Chaco Canyon and Canyon de Chelly.”

“Drawing is magical. I am intrigued with the ‘transient moment’ or the sense thereof in the drawing. At any moment the figure will move, will stand up, and walk away. It is the challenge to replicate some sense of that life in front of me. Space, light, color, and surface come together to evoke an emotional response in the viewer. If the elements of emotion, truth, and light join hands, come together in one harmony ..
